I hate that I'm so late to the Asian Sesame dressing party, but I love this dressing so much, that I just e-mailed Panera, asking them to just bottle it up and sell it at their restaurants. In the meantime, I'm going to try the recipe from comment #54.

I don't want to go to buy bottles of this dressing at Supertarget - I want to make it myself. Because not only will it be much cheaper, it won't contain HFCS, potassium sorbate, calcium disodium EDTA, etc.

So how does comment #29's recipe taste? Close? (And lol at "We make it every morning" haha)
ATTENTION everyone who is on this comment chain. There are more Peter Ericksons in MN than the creep you are trying to track down.

I am one of them AND I have received some pretty brutal phone calls which I have reported to authorities.

Please do more research than a Dexonline search. You are just affecting OTHER innocent people and their families.

I am sorry that someone scammed you out of money but it wasn't me.

Everyone please READ THIS BEFORE YOU WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!! I currently work for IJL and I HATE it! It is the biggest scam Ive ever seen. First off they will take anyone that has the money, even if they aren't "professional". Put it on a credit card or five, they don't care if you even have a job! They take people that they knowingly cannot match simply to get their money and there are NO REFUNDS, EVER! Plus they treat their workers like crap! They make us lie, manipulate and basically steal to get what they want. $$$. This is a nightmare. I took the job because I thought I would help people and it would be fun. NO WAY! Trust me when I say that if the BBB knew all the lies this place would have to be shut down. They even make us take people engaged or married or living hundreds of miles away from our office. There aren't enough words to say how awful this place is. I would rather risk meeting someone at a bar or the freakin gas station, its safer honestly. Oh and THERE ARE NO BACKGROUND CHECKS, no checks of any kind, ie the guy you're at lunch with may have a long criminal record or may be married or even on probation. BEWARE of IJL and goodluck.

Ok, folks... I can verify what Mellannie says about SuperTarget: they do indeed have Panera branded Asian sesame dressing, in the bag salad section. I'm going to try it soon, and I'll let you know how it tastes. That still doesn't give us a recipe, but at least that might give us a way to enjoy the salad home. Stay tuned, and thanks to Mellannie!

I just bought the dressing at SuperTarget. I found it by the bagged salad. It's Panera brand Asian Sesame. It was about $4.50. It is exactly what you get at Panera. We made the salad and it was like we had gotten it at Panera's, but much cheaper. Hope this helps all those wanting to have it at home.

Cool!

A Duke undergrad got into sous vide cooking some years ago and used laboratory baths for the cooking. I'm pretty sure that your solution was cash cheaper (not counting time) than almost any laboratory bath that could be found, unless you got a crazy good deal on used.

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/30/magazine/30food-t.html

I was treated to an evening at this guy's place before it got shut down (again) by the food police. It was pretty good but I got a crazy upset stomach because I hadn't had that much rich food (meats and cheeses) in a long time.

I just called the panera in gilroy ca, and the store manager Paul said there's no way to buy the dressing. He said they are not allowed to sell it to customers. This sucks because Gilroy is 30 minutes away. So I can only eat it once in a great while:(

I also followed W Neal #29's recipe. I bought "Asian Gourmet" brand Plain Rice Vinegar and "Asian Gourmet" brand regular (dark colored) Sesame Oil (not toasted) but used 1/2 the amount of sesame oil #29 recommended. I think that amount is all a matter of your own preference. 1/8 cup of sesame oil is all I needed plus I noticed it really did not have a dark color to it even using the dark colored oil. I did however try to buy it @ Panera today and they do not offer it for sale anymore. I live in Michigan.

Thankfully I did not pay the ridiculous fees involved with this scam of a service, however I discovered that my boyfriend that I live with is a member of Its Just Lunch and has been going on 1 to 2 dates per month the entire length of our relationship. I called IJL to tell them we live together and that he is in what I thought was a serious relationship. They told me they were going to cancel his membership as when he signed their agreement, he was agreeing he was single. Now, a month later he is going on more dates. We are in a lease together for another year and he refuses to leave. He can not be on our lease by himself due to his credit situation so they will not take me off the lease. He coursed me into working things out after the first issue and I trusted him. It is my fault that I am in the situation that I am in, but I want the world to know that IJL is introducing men that they clearly know are in relationships to their other clients. I have read other horror stories from women who were introduced to married men. Great way to start something new. Beware IJL members!!

Meant to say: yeesh. You were doing the right thing.

Now, other people in your situation might have also tried to wave the white truck through, but that's just foolish.

In that situation, I'd do what you do, but make no eye contact with the white truck (so as not to make him think I'm suggesting that he should come on through) then let the white truck do its own sensible thing -- i.e., wait to make sure there's no moving car in the lane to your right before doing its own thing.

Thanks Cathy; I did not believe the guy who said he made the dressing in the store; clearly, the ingredient list shows that it's made in a factory, not from scratch. Do you know if it's a general policy for stores to sell the dressing in 8 oz. containers, or is that specific to each location?

I am a general manager for Panera Bread, and have been with the company since 2001. We do not make the dressing in small batches every morning, although I got a good laugh from that comment. Our dressing is created and supplied to us. I too, have tried to re-create the recipe to no avail. So here's what I do...I buy it from the my store. Although we no longer sell our retail bottled dressings, we will gladly sell it in 8 oz. containers, to any customer who requests it. I happily carry it home, create my own salad and enjoy. No stress involved.

I had an EXCELLENT experience with It's Just Lunch in Fort Lauderdale and met my now live-in boyfriend through them and we JUST GOT ENGAGED!!!!!!!!:) I feel they did a nice job matching me because the dates before my boyfriend were all nice interesting men but we did not click as well. Dating is a numbers game and It's Just Lunch did provide me nice matches before me and Dan clicked!

My dating director was super nice and really listened to what I wanted. They nailed it and I am soooo happy. At the time, was super busy and did not have time to meet men and they coordinated my schedule well!

Some people I see have had a bad experience with them because they probally are expecting the bachelor or bachlerette when they sign up and are not all that and a gold trophy knock out themselves. You can't just but your perfect dream girl or dream man. Again, It is a numbers game but It's Just Lunch helps a ton in doing all the initial work so I had to do was show up.

I HIGHLY RECOMMED THEM!!!

Hi everyone, I love the panera salad!! I'm also addicted to it. I had the half size right now but I will be going back for a full size so I can have for dinner. I will be trying out some of your recipes but I wanted to suggest you try a salad from the cheesecake factory. The closes one to my house in 2 hours away and I drive any chance I get to have it. That just tells you how delicious it is. It's the cashew chicken salad. It's the best!!! If there's one close to u, you have to try it!!

Wow, I wish I would have read this before I signed up

I signed up with the Cleveland IJL back in 2006 and finished my 1 year contract this past February 2010. Yes, it's taken over 3 years and they never found a match for me even though they claimed that "this is the one".
The person setting up the date builds up this perfect guy only to have you introduced to a person that is nowhere close to the description you were given. What a waste of time.

FYI: The reason I was able to prolong my contract: I put my account on "hold" for a few months in between a date or two (you were given 14 dates or 1 year membership).

I have been trying to get a story to radio stations and TV news, but it seems that they would rather get the billing for advertising this dating service instead of warning men and women of this business.

I noticed that some of you are looking for a "free" dating web site. My best friend found her husband through plentyoffish.com. I haven't had luck yet, but I am hopeful. Good luck in your search!

AHHH I am offically not a crazy person! I go on rants at random street corners on how much I hate that I have to buy individual salads to get that tangy tart chinese dressing. Everything in the stores doens't work for me- I feel like this is a recovery post for chinese dressing addicts. I will try Neil's recipe soon.

My favorite salad is the Chinese Chicken from Trader Joe's that only gives you about an ounce for $4.99 with sometimes wilted lettuce. I have literally bought the whole salad and thrown away everything and made a fresh one just to use the dressing. Man, it felt good to get that off my chest.

I had the same experience as the guys above with Geek 2 Geek. I signed up with a promo deal ($40 for six months or something). Two days before they auto-renewed (which I'm pretty damn sure I didn't agree to) I got an obviously fake wink (23-year-old model who's heartbroken and love sex but lives 1,000 miles away... yeah right).

As for the auto-renew, apparently you have to actively go into your account to turn it off, 'cuz it's on by default. $90 later, I've learned my lesson. While I did get one good date out of G2G, between the auto-renew scam and the fake wink scam, I've canceled and will never go back.

Ditto on the comment #29, it's pretty much an exact recipe.

Couple things; make sure the sesame oil is light colored, like they said. I got unrefined sesame oil (refined is less flavorful and for frying).

After checking around, there is no difference between rice wine vinegar and rice vinegar. Different terms for the same thing. Vinegar is made from wine. Also make sure the only ingredients are vinegar and water. No added sugar, salt, seasoning, anything. The point is to sweeten it yourself to get that particular taste.

Thanks! I ate a whole bag of salad!

Comment on 'The Great Escalator Versus Stairs Debate' by Ron (Guest)

I like Tim Ross comment #5 the best. It is simple and accurate. Here's another way of looking at it, with no assumptions about acceleration and velocity, nor how your feet are moving. Suppose the escalator is not moving, and you climb from the bottom to the top. It is just like climbing a flight of regular stairs and you have expended energy equal to mgh where m is your mass and h is the vertical height. Your body now contains that amount of additional potential energy, relative to where you started. Now you stop at the top and remain still, while someone turns on the escalator and it carries you all the way to the bottom, where you started. Your potential energy has now returned to what it was before you started climbing. But clearly that does not negate the work you did in climbing the stairs. I think everyone would agree the exercise was the same as if you had climbed a regular flight of stairs.

So where did that potential energy in your body disappear to, when the escalator carried you back down? That energy went into the escalator equipment. For example, if you supposed that the escalator had some kind of braking mechanism to keep it from accelerating, that braking mechanism (which could be a friction brake) had to expend additional energy to prevent the escalator from accelerating as it carried you down, and that additional braking energy is equal to the potential energy your body gave up when you returned to the bottom. One way or another, the potential energy you created in climbing to the top was returned to the escalator mechanism, in this case in the form of extra heat dissipation in the friction brake.

The same effect would occur if you climbed one stair, then the escalator moved down one stair, then you climbed another stair, and the escalator moved down another stair. If you extrapolate this series of steps into continuous motion of both you and the escalator, the effect is still the same except the up and down motions become very small and you remain in the same vertical position. This is the same reason why walking on an inclined treadmill feels just like walking uphill.

I'm sure Einstein would have an elegant explanation in terms of inertial reference frames, etc.

I am currently working on a story on in-person dating services and It's Just Lunch seems to be the only franchise and one of the fewest in-person dating services in South Florida. I am looking for sources to help me with my story to talk about their experiences and if they liked it or not. My email is ccollazo427@gmail.com and any info and quotes would help tremendously. I'm looking for people who used the services in the South Florida area only.

Thank you all!
- Charlene

I recently caught my boyfriend of 18 months on a "IJL" date. This was in Chicago, Illinois.
I let IJL know and even sent them a copy of the email he sent to me that very day and how he was "going to his grandmother's nursing home" and to meet him later in the evening and how he "loved" me. What did IJL do? Set him up with more dates.
I understand that IJL was not privy to the fact he had a girlfriend. There are reasons they shouldn't have taken him on as a client (and reflects I should have dropped him as a boyfriend). But you'd think after IJL finds out abut this guy and the fact that he is such an alcoholic that he can not even set foot at Ralph Lauren (because of a drunk incident there without the help of anyone but himself) that they would drop him - instead they are setting up up with women left and right. I was told that IJL is short on men - so they will take about anyone. But - for the women out there thinking about trying the program - ask yourself who they really are helping by introducing you to guys like this despite knowing his current life?
Again, for me good riddance. But to the other optimistic women out there - just be careful. There is no need for us to pay $125 to go out with someone. IJL knows nothing about someone besides the fact that they have a business card and we can do that on our own. They do no credit checks or anything. So, they are no less in the dark than we are when we meet a guy in a grocery store!
Keep your money! Try a different service - or just ask your friends to set you up. IJL is NO GOOD!

I have no clue how they make the dressing, but i wish i did!! I used to work at panera, and i will say this.. I've noticed on multiple sites people talking about the chicken. There is nothing special about the chicken. They use the same chicken in everything and its just plain grilled chicken. I know because i remember having to individually bag chicken so there would be similar portions in all the salads.... Also, they used to sell the dressing.. they don't anymore because they used to leave it out and people used to steal it .. or at least that's how it is in Jersey.

"On hold" only means that you still pay them for the service that you do not receive, even at the initial term. You might as well go out on the street and throw money in the air and you'll meet nicer people. Afterall, the most dates you'll get with this service is 2 per month even though they say they have "100's" available for you.
Don't do it! there are better ways to meet people for less money!
It's not that I dislike them. I'm trying to review these things in a broad context, comparing them to things I'd make at home or things I'd eat in a restaurant. So far, there haven't been any microwave meals that really measure up flavor-wise to made-from-scratch cooking. I suspect that may change once I start trying some less healthy things (like, say, a lasagna with 25 grams of fat).
