I have DirecTV and was having problems, too. We have Tivo and DirecTV offered me to "upgrade" to their DVR system. I read some about their system and determined not to go with it.

My troubles were from one of the satellite signals not being read correctly. (i.e. I could get ESPN but ESPN 2 would pixelize)

It seems like two things can go wrong with a Tivo unit and for me, it was the tuner and not the satellite. Once I ordered my refurbished unit off the web, my service went back as usual.
