The Finduslove Scam Revealed!
Thursday, 2005 April 7 - 10:23 pm
A lot of folks have been Googling to find out information about a dating web site called "finduslove". Well, I've got the dish here, and I'm posting it as a public service. (Originally posted March 30th. I'm reposting to keep it on the front page, since people are still searching for it.)

If you've arrived here via a Google search for "finduslove", welcome. The short story is that the site is probably a scam. Read on for more details.

So as you may recall, I saw a couple of suspicious looking profiles during my on-line dating adventures. Judging from my Google hits, a lot of other people have been seeing these profiles too, across the entire country. Thus far I appear to be the only person on the Internet who has even mentioned "finduslove", because I'm the only site that Google finds. So as a public service to all the other lonely-hearts out there, I did a little snooping.

First, I did a Whois lookup on finduslove.com, and found this:

Domain: finduslove.com
Registrant: "Keep Private"
Shedepu shedepu@yahoo.com
Private
St. Louis Park, Mn 55416 US
+1.6125088724
Record created on February 01, 2005
Record last updated on February 03, 2005
Record expires on February 01, 2007

So this domain was registered very recently. Already, that's suspicious for a site that claims to have been voted "the Internet's most active dating site three years in a row".

I went ahead and put in a dummy profile to see what would happen. I got redirected to a different site, "heartdetectives.com". The Whois information for that site is similar:

Domain: heartdetectives.com
Registrant: Peter Erickson
Texpo Inc hostmaster@texpoinc.com
PO Box 22086
Robbinsdale, MN 55422 US
+1.1111111111
Record created on February 26, 2001
Record last updated on February 26, 2005
Record expires on February 26, 2008

Unlike "finduslove", there is PLENTY of information on heartdetectives.com. I've posted some letters from ripoffreport.com at the end of this article, but it definitely seems like we're dealing with a scam here. People sign up for free, their inboxes start filling up with messages from beautiful women, but they can't respond or do anything until they pay to become a member. When they do pay, the messages stop coming.

I hope too many people haven't been victimized here. If you've already gone ahead and paid for the service, you may want to contact your credit card company to stop payment (and maybe, cancel your card).

Hope this is helpful. If anyone has any further information, feel free to post in the comment section.

-----

After posting a free profile on this site, I noticed the responses piling up in my inbox (none of them readable, of course, until you pay to join). So I joined and after about 3 weeks knew I'd been played a fool. I never received one response from any of the ladies who had seemed so eager to talk. The letters stopped coming in the moment my credit card was charged.

Knowing that I had waisted $24.95, I then jumped through the hoops and completed the process of cancelling my membership. No big deal. Knowing that I had been mislead into waisting my energy searching for a life partner amongst outdated (and most likely falsified) profiles...made me furious.

Seeking the only recourse I thought possible at the time, I used my own profile's essay to post the true nature of HeartDetectives "services". Finding it replaced by a cutesy plagiarism the next day, I demanded a refund of my money, and warned that further action would be taken if a refund was not received. In response, my profile was promptly deleted, and my home IP address blocked so I no longer have access to the site. I have received no refund.

Luckily I had saved an email message from HeartDetectives reguarding my password. Tracking the IP address from that message yeilded the Domain registrant as Peter Erickson of Robbinsdale MN, and his company Texpo, Inc. Hello Pete. Now myself and many others you've ripped off know where you live.

HeartDetectives is a poor web site, with a terrible layout and the worst searching. But to top it all off, it IS the biggest SCAM dating web site on the Internet to date. DO NOT SIGN UP. If you register, you will immediately get responses from supposed people interested in you but, you must sign up to read the responses. The responses are generated by the web site administrators and are fake. You will never get a reply but guaranteed, HeartDetectives will never refund.

To top it off, they make cancelling difficult to find unless you read all the help faqs and get a reply.

Stay away from these low-life con artists. They will wither and blow away soon.

-----

I subscribed to a site called heartdetectives becuase they sent me an e-mail stating that members were trying to contact me. What I found after I paid is that the members contacts were as old as two years. And under no curcumstances any newer than one year..The site claims to delete any message over 60 days old.

There were numorous other problems with the site as well. Customer support wouldn't answer any inquries and there was no way to contact any one, SO I cancelled my subscription via the proper channel. I was sent an e-mail back stating that I was not entitled to a refund It has been determined that your issue does not warrant a refund. Through processing your information it was agreed that once submitted the subscription fees would become non-refundable. We do not produce or post the content held within the website and are therefore not responsible for it.BUT the tos also says:

7. Cancellation

At any time, and without cause, subscription to the service may be terminated by either CCBill, the site, or the subscriber upon notification of the other by electronic or conventional mail, or by telephone or fax. When the member requests the termination, subscription fees are NOT refunded. Subscribers are liable for charges incurred by them until termination of service.

HMMM, "Subscribers are liable for charges incurred by them until termination of service." I cancelled after three days, 24.95 divided by 30 is what .85? So I offered them $2.55 for their trouble. They do not respond to that offer so here I am. According to their very own TOS they are liable to refund the remaining balance.

-----

These reports on Heartdetectives are spot on. Once you sign up beautiful people write to you. But you have to pay to read. I changed my profile, telling all that the people were fake, scammed up by heartdectives. When I did that the heartdectives people eliminated my profile since I revealed the truth about them and block my IP address so that I could never register again. Much of this was exactly as reported in other ripoff reports. They are scammers.

Thanks guys for the info on the finduslove thing. Had a woman from match.com to do the "wink" thing. She stated in her profile that she could also be found on the finduslove site. I kind of figured there was something up with that.

I had a women do the "wink"think as well on match.com. She said she could be found on finduslove site. Also, I have had several beautiful so called Russian women contact me at Yahoo personnels. They fall in love with me after my second e-mail. God, I wish it was that easy. They then try to get me to send them money for an American visa so they can come and see me. None of these ladies has a family, and they are always lonely. They are lonely until you send them the $300.00 dollars for their America Visa. Then they are hard to find. Great website folks. I wish there were more.

Had the match "wink" too. The Russian woman are common. There is actually a black list site for the Russian women that is very interesting. Just Google it and there are thousands of listings of fake Russian women. You will most likely find those e-mails word for word on there. The pictures too.

Wow, that's a good tip, Brian. I found one blacklist site here. There seem to be a number of other similar sites as well. In general, I would stay away from the mail-order-bride business in general... better to stick to local girls, even if they seem scarce.

Great job guys. I also got a wink from someone on yahoo personals stating the exact same thing, that she "could be found on the finduslove sight". This one also stated in her profile that "financial responsibility is very important". I also have gotten several e-mails from women overseas seeking money. One IM'd me from Africa seemingly in a panic because she was being held against her will in a hotel by the manager because her friend stole all of her money. She even gave me the phone number of the hotel so I could talk to the "manager" and make arrangements to send money and save her. When I told her that I would help her out and call the American Embassy in Africa, she dissapeared.
I am glad I found this SIGHT.

Too funny, I got one of these "winks" last night on Match.com. Are they being scammed or is there any way of letting them know this crap is going on.

ezgoingtina is her profile, and while intrigued, I have decided to try a few different sites that require payment every month, but none at the same time. All I want is a fuck buddy, not marriage. This month I am on americansingles.com and when you weed out all the disgruntled divorced kid packages they are a few gems in there worth chasing. I have my first ecounter this week with no expectations. Wish me luck :)

Not often I get scammed...but Im guilty of falling for the wink. Damn the luck! Just so you have complete records to use for the BBB I'll give them to ya'll .. be gentle with the flaming. On 4/21/05 received wink on match.com from tryrenee123...again her profile referred to finduslove.com (checked and it still does currently, also saved a copy of page). I signed up at heartdetctives.com for a free profile and just like other peeps said two Emails from Hottbratt and funwithme showed up. Of course I signed up! and lost the $25, oh well easy come easy go. My login on heartdetectives.com was kennedy101 which has now been cancelled. If anyone needs my match.com login for evidence they can email me. Good catch ya'll! Hope this Peter guy gets his butt in jail! Even better I hope match.com files charges!!! --justin

Got it on match.com from Just Janessa. She mentions finduslove as well. The profile was so poorly written, that I figured something was up. The finduslove business lead me here after a Google search. Fortunately, I didn't get scammed out of any money but I did waste some time writing up a reply.

Oh well. It seems online dating can suck just as bad as offline LOL

I'm glad so many people are finding their way here.

One thing everyone can do is report each bogus user to match.com, using their on-line customer support form. Hopefully if they hear enough about it, they'll actually start putting in some filters for this kind of thing. I reported a couple of users and got a form-letter back saying that those users had been booted, but I don't know if there have been any systemic changes.

As far as a lawsuit goes, I'm not sure. I haven't suffered any damages myself, other than perhaps some "mental anguish". I'd be glad to participate and provide information, but I never went far enough with finduslove to gather any hard evidence of a scam. If anyone out there feels like they want to pursue it, I'd say talk to a lawyer; or, if you want to try going after the perpetrator on criminal grounds, contact the FBI.

How could this happen, when with all good concious people go on these sites to maybe find someone dear, and people that run these sites take advantage of lonely and broken hearts, that is so sad, how can anyone trust anyone.
In my profile is says that I am a widow, how can they play with someone's emotions like that, take my money and yes after the charge went through my card I have not received a message in months, but I think there is a bogus profile (Treasurehunt)he sends me an email once every 2 months just to keep me coming back, I sent an email asking them if they knew the last time he was on line, their answer was just keep emailing it is a matter of time, now I feel like a fool, because I just kept sending him emails, waisting my time and my money.
Thank You for opening up my eyes.

Wow...thanks for the info. Unfortuneately I fell victim to the heartdetectives scam. Luckily I'm only in for a 4.95 trial fee. After finding the info here on this site I sent a few questions to the webmaster at heartdetectives and promptly had my account terminated. What a crock. I suffered the same fate with heartdetective as many of you: many emails, then none after I paid, and none answered, once I contacted them as a member. I didn't catch on until I kept getting the bill on my credit card without my authorization. Thanks for the warning. I realize I've been scammed now. Maybe no one gets a lawyer because it's only 25 a month. Be careful of another website, eurolove.biz and the same site but different name, chat112.com. This site charge me for a day, but after logged off and came back in an hour, the authorization for me had expired. THEN, I was charged for a month without my authorization and I could not even log in. After threatening the people with going to the legal system, they refunded the unauthorized charge.
THanks again!

Guess what Heart Detectives is still at it. They have women post on match.com, send out winks and let people know that they are also listed on Tasty Lovers .com which redirects you to HD. Then their profile disappears a few days later. People like this need to be shot, drawn and quatered. If anybody starts ANY type of lawsuit count me in. I Have the bogus emails and a ton of info for proof. So glad I found this website.

After doing a whois on this domain.. you will see the exact same information as posted above for finduslove.com registration info.

Peter Erickson... or whoever he is... is up to it again under a new domain name... pass the word.

I would like to see all of you go out and fill out this complaint form to the IFCC and FBI. Get this snake invesigated. Include the link to this forum in your complaint and explain point out the places in this forum where it describes how you were redirected to another site, scammed, etc.. and how it was done illegally via another site like Match.com and the illegal usage of some poor girl's picture without her permission. All of these are Federal offenses and various types of fraud.

This is the link to the government site that specializes in this:
http://www.ifccfbi.gov/index.asp

Here also is the link to the Minnesota Consumer Affairs... they should be sent a complaint as well:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/links/mn.htm

I have sent complaints... however, I caught onto the act from the match.com profile before I ever paid the weasle any money for his site... and since I technically wasn't defrauded for money... I can only point you guys in the right direction and hope some of you are as good as explaining this stuff to the authorities as I am. If you aren't... get someone to help you explain it. I know you may not have lost much more than $25 or $30.. but go to the effort anyway on principle... the guy took us all for suckers and thinks you are all too wimpy to turn him in nor smart enough to help catch him. Prove him wrong...

Has anyone thought about suing this individual, a class action law suit? I would also go after CCBill for participating and profiting in the scam. I think all of this would be possible since we’re dealing with an individual within the country unlike the overseas scams.

Peter Erickson dba Texpo Inc. is at it again with VeryHotLove.com. This site leads you to Heartdetectives.com, and I too was ripped off. As soon as I payed, the messages from other "Members" stopped. I called CCBill.com, and told them they should check out who they are doing business with, as I am sure a savvy lawyer could sue them too. The operator promised to tell the higher-ups. I appreciate this site and almost signed up for "Heart Detectives" simply because I had email and after checking my profiles there, I had an incomplete profile and no picture posted. In fact, I had no description of myself posted and yet I had eight emails in my inbox. Being rational, I did a back ground check on Google and found this forum and another about heartdetectives.com. Their site is just like Match.com and I feel it's a total scam. Plentyoffish.com is the best because it's free and I have had more luck atleast in getting replies from women there.

I did make a free profile on finduslove and the next thing I know I was getting messages from women but on heartdectives. I found that to be very strange. Now I get about one new message every 3 or 4 days. Of course you can not see a good picture of those people or send them a message until you pay.

I have not paid and I won't. I never got a good feeling from that or Match.com or any site where you have to pay. Americansingles.com was not bad, but why pay when you have such cool free sites like MySpace.com or Friendster.com or even Bangme.net, which is not a sex site regardless of the name. Faceparty.com is okay too... these are not necessarily dating sites, but it is a FREE way to come across people.

So guys... and gals... why pay?
Besides, from experience... you usually don't find love when you look for it.

Another scam to look out for... really hot babes on HOTorNOT... usually from a different country other than the US... will scam for money or whatever they can get. Don't waste your time!

It is unfortunate that people have to scam honest people who just want to find love. I thought about making a REAL site with REAL people and not becoming rich from it. You shouldn't have to pay in order to meet quality people!

Good work on this. I wish I had read it first before I got ripped off. I'll be contesting the charges to my credit card right away.

Edited by webmaster: remainder of this comment has been removed. If you're going to try to hunt down scammers on your own, please make sure you don't harass innocent parties in the process.

I was just looking for a dating site to join when I found your website and later on many others too, where you can read about scams. I didn't thought it was that bad to be honest. But now I am somehow frightened to join any dating site at all.
Any recommendations? Are there sites that are fraudester-free?
Thanks again for warning me against heardetectives and finduslove.

Another one to be wary of is "Geek 2 Geek," the hipster/geek oriented website. I found out about it through a link to an IMDB article. Seemed a good idea, a place where you could find down-to-earth girls into stuff like movies, music, comics, that kind of thing, right? Well, after receiving 3-4 "Winks" from people who were SUPPOSEDLY interested in me, but who'd nonetheless NEVER respond when I wrote them back to follow up (and bear in mind, I had to PAY to renew a monthly membership to do so), I knew that something was up... especially, when I noticed that the "Winks" were coincidently coming about exactly 1-year after the last one did. So essentially, the website was using someone's profile--which might not have even BEEN a real profile--to send (or make it look like this person had sent) a Wink, to keep me paying to reply. What sucks is I spent some time being confused and mad by the girls themselves, wondering why they'd wink me and not respond. Oh well, just save your own time and money, and don't fall into the same trap (for that, or ANY other dating website...).

I have been scammed by heartdetectives.com and got charged twice. I finally called CCBill and cancelled my subscription.

Thanks Mike

If you are desperate for a sex mate the only way for free is backpage, craigs list or if you live in Denver sowet. downside is there is a lot of competition.

Thanks for this site: whomever created it. I signed up for HeartDetectives.com and have received 4 winks and 10 emails from some great looking women. Have winked back and decided to do some checking before paying any money. Well, I won't be signing up for HeartDetectives, thanks to everyone's posts here. There are some pretty good free dating websites:

datehookup.com / connectingsingles.com / plentyoffish.com / mingle2.com / christianet.com

The best one I'd have to say is: datehookup.com--I've made some friends on there, two women in Tennessee. Christianet.com is a pretty good website: have lady friends from Scotland, Ukraine, Arizona, and New York. There are two that I've paid for with no luck: christiancafe.com and adultfriendfinder.com. Someone on christiancafe.com emailed me and she is nuts.

I joined Geek 2 Geek so as to be able to exchange info with fellow movie and music buffs (my friends get sick of me talking about film noir and The Simpsons, and Russian Lit) I agreed to pay for just one month to try it out. I didn't realize they signed me up for an automatic renewal. And I am pretty darn certain I didn't click the little box for that option. They of course charged me before my first one month subscription was complete and refused to refund me for the second charge even though I terminated my account before the next month was due to start.

I had the same experience as the guys above with Geek 2 Geek. I signed up with a promo deal ($40 for six months or something). Two days before they auto-renewed (which I'm pretty damn sure I didn't agree to) I got an obviously fake wink (23-year-old model who's heartbroken and love sex but lives 1,000 miles away... yeah right).

As for the auto-renew, apparently you have to actively go into your account to turn it off, 'cuz it's on by default. $90 later, I've learned my lesson. While I did get one good date out of G2G, between the auto-renew scam and the fake wink scam, I've canceled and will never go back.

ATTENTION everyone who is on this comment chain. There are more Peter Ericksons in MN than the creep you are trying to track down.

I am one of them AND I have received some pretty brutal phone calls which I have reported to authorities.

Please do more research than a Dexonline search. You are just affecting OTHER innocent people and their families.

I am sorry that someone scammed you out of money but it wasn't me.

To follow-up on the previous comment: it's all well and good to try to track down people who have scammed you, but it's horrible to harass an innocent person who happens to have the same name. I'll delete any unsubstantiated addresses that appear in this comment thread from now on.

I am a woman of 51 and I am glad you have posted this on line for everyone to see. I decided to get on line to try the dating sites due not being into the bar scene's and you know how the friend introduces you to a friend goes. *LOL Although I have not been scammed as of yet because I refuse to pay someone to meet someone on line when there are free sites. I would just delete my profile. Although I had many men email me and try the scam on me. Pictures of nice looking older men my age and even ones that were up to 10 yrs. younger, me knowing all along, most........not all, but most real men go for the younger women no matter how much the woman may look nice. I found after only a few emails they were in love, yeah,,,,,,,right. I didn't get to my age without learning something.*LOL Well, there are a lot of men on line doing this scam and usually get caught and removed from the sites. I am sure there are lots of women too doing this. Just remember the old saying,if it sounds too good to be true, then it is just that. Hope this helps out some of you guys out there, and women.
