Apple Watch: HP's Surprising Deal to Sell iPods | Saturday, 2004 January 24 - 5:02 pm |
Apple and Hewlett-Packard shocked the computer industry by announcing that HP would re-brand and sell iPods, and would pre-install iTunes on HP computers. This was quite a coup for Steve Jobs. One can almost imagine the jaws dropping in Redmond as Microsoft watched the largest PC manufacturer snub Windows Media devices in favor of Apple's iPod/iTunes combination. What people started to realize is this: with the iPod comes iTunes and AAC, and with that comes QuickTime. It's funny to watch someone out-Microsoft Microsoft. Leverage a dominant market share (the iPod) in one arena to gain ground in another (QuickTime)? Hmm, where did Apple learn that? Be afraid, Microsoft. Apple isn't about to make the same mistakes it did in the late 80's. |
