Blog Note: Site Updates | Friday, 2004 December 10 - 1:26 am |
A few notes about the Real Kato Online site, for those who care. I've made a few upgrades to the site. First, I upgraded to HaloScan Premium for comments, so the comment box looks a little better and doesn't have any ads in it. The guys running HaloScan run purely on donations, and they do a pretty good job. Second, I added a HaloScan-based guest book link on the right (and on the "About" page). Write something nice about me for posterity. Third, I put up commenting guidelines (which are more for the random strangers who stumble onto this site, as opposed to my regular readers); you can get to them via a link on the comment box. Fourth, I switched to StatCounter.com for statistics collection. These guys run a respectable organization; they don't bang on you for money and don't demand that you put up ads on their behalf. I've considered using a more conventional blogging site (LiveJournal.etc, Blogger.com, etc.) but I like the freedom and flexibility of setting things up myself. Yeah, iBlog can be a cantankerous beast sometimes, but I'm starting to get things the way I want. My next major upgrade might be to set up a real host instead of using mac.com; that would let me run Apache, MySQL, PHP, and Perl to my heart's content. But I haven't really gotten to the point where I need that yet. It's not like advertisers are banging down my door to reach my half-dozen readers. |
