Home Theater: Time Warner DVR On The Way
Thursday, 2005 January 20 - 11:59 pm
With my Home Theater Macintosh project now officially defunct, I went ahead and ordered the Time Warner Cable DVR.

The Time Warner guy on the phone was a low talker. And I mean, not only did he talk softly, he also talked in a really deep pitch, so he was quite difficult to understand. Sometimes he went dead silent for a full minute; I guess he was looking things up... or maybe the pitch of his voice went below the range of human hearing.

I'm pretty sure I managed to convey to him what I wanted: the high-definition DVR that they offer. I asked him if I could just go to the local service center and exchange my box. He said, "not for the high-def version. We have to send someone out there."

Umm, what? Do they think I can't handle the three extra cables myself? Or is it just that the cable installer guys are bored? I don't understand. But I didn't want to try to get Low-Talker to explain it to me; that would have been an exercise in frustration, I think.

So now I have to sit at home Saturday morning "from eight to twelve". Granted, I would probably have been home anyway, but normally I wouldn't have been DRESSED.

Maybe that's just the way they like it.

Low-talker LIED to me! They have no HD DVRs available! So now I'm up early on Saturday for nothing. I'm faced with the choice of actually doing something useful, or going back to bed.

Zzzzzsnrkgfl....
