Apple Watch: The Signs
Tuesday, 2005 April 19 - 10:28 pm
I'm still waiting for the right time to jump into the next round of upgrades.

So now, two of my computers are sick. As you may remember, I had to patch up Maria the laptop recently. Now, Heather the file-server has a corrupted hard drive partition. I think we all know how painful that can be. It's a sign, I'm telling you... I need to BUY BUY BUY more computers.

But Apple sure is taking their sweet time announcing new hardware. Think Secret, the site that's getting sued for leaking Apple trade secrets, is still chugging along with rumors... they say new PowerMac G5s are imminent (though now they're predicting only minor speed increases). No word on a possible iBook mini, though, which is still what I really want.

Of course, anyway, I'm still waiting for Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" to ship, on April 29th. (On that day I will have to restrain myself from ripping my eyeballs out of their sockets, because I know that every news organization will run articles with titles like "Tiger Ready to Pounce", "Tiger Roars into the Mac", and "Tiger Makes Macs Purr". FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, we already heard all the clichés when Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" was released.)

Apple did release a minor update recently, by the way: Mac OS X 10.3.9. It seems like a pretty good update, though some users are experiencing problems with Java and Safari. If you do update, be sure to read this technote.

One other interesting Apple tidbit: Nine Inch Nails released their latest single "The Hand That Feeds" in GarageBand format, meaning that millions of Mac owners can remix the song in any number of ways (substituting instruments, changing entire tracks, etc.). I might have to put out a big band version or something.

Update: All the dual-processor PowerMac G5s on the online Apple Store have gone from same-day availability to "3-5 days". This may mean that we'll see new machines on Tuesday! Hooray!
