College Football 2013: Week 5 Recap
Tuesday, 2013 October 1 - 8:46 am
Michigan was on a bye; N.C. State easily defeats Central Michigan.

N.C. State 48, Central Michigan 14.
N.C. State cruised by Central Michigan, with Pete Thomas passing for 244 yards and Shadrach Thornton rushing for 71 of State's 239 total. Meanwhile CMU only gained 259 yards total and was 2-12 on third down conversions.

There aren't a lot of takeaways from this game; remember CMU was a team that Michigan beat 59-9.

Next week N.C. State plays Wake Forest, who's off to a pretty miserable start this year.

Other Notable Games
#4 Ohio State beat #24 Wisconsin 31-24. Wisconsin fans will again be thinking "what-if" after OSU scored a 40-yard touchdown with one second left in the first half.

#9 Georgia beat #6 LSU 44-41. Is there no defense in the SEC this year?

West Virginia upset #11 Oklahoma State 30-21. WVU had been off to a pretty rough start to the season and Oklahoma State was seen as a Big-12 title contender, so this was quite a surprise.

#12 South Carolina barely got by Central Florida 28-25. UCF is a solid team; they could well finish at 10-2 this year and get a major bowl bid.

#14 Oklahoma crushed #22 Notre Dame 35-21. This is notable for two reasons: one, clearly this is not the Notre Dame of last year; and two, Michigan's win becomes less and less impressive each week. With tough games against Arizona State and Stanford still on the schedule, the week 8 game against USC is looking like a must-win game to salvage the season.

#16 Washington beat Rich Rodriguez' Arizona team 31-13. I really thought Arizona would put up a better fight than this. Meanwhile Washington looks like they might be for real this year; for coach Steve Sarkisian, this is a pretty remarkable turnaround from going 0-12 under Ty Willingham in 2008.

Northern Illinois crushed Purdue 55-24. NIU is a good team, but Purdue... geez.

Iowa stomped Minnesota 23-7. Minnesota's 4-0 start to the season looks like a bit of a mirage.

East Carolina demolished North Carolina 55-31. I think UNC looks a bit soft this year, though give credit to the ECU Pirates; this might be a really good year for them.

Duke barely managed to hold off Troy 38-31.

Virginia Tech beat Georgia Tech 17-10.
