BlogHer Coverage 1: Friday Dinner
Monday, 2005 August 1 - 2:24 pm
A little bit more about the pre-conference dinner.

Okay, I know I already mentioned the Friday BlogHer dinner before, but I want to say a few more words about it.

It may not have been coincidence that the seat across from me was initially left vacant when I sat down at the BlogHer celebrity table.

I mean, no one really knew me, and of course, I was a DUDE. But coincidence or not, it was lucky, because the seat was left open for the incomparable Heather Armstrong.

So, over dinner, we chatted about her celebrity status (which she's very modest about) and even sometimes, about boobs.

So that evening I experienced something that made me the envy of hundreds of women. How many times can an obscure male blogger say something like that?

Over the course of dinner, dozens of people came up to say, "Heather, I just wanted to meet you. And I love your blog." But Heather, the message I'd like to give you is this: "I love why you blog. Because I think you do it the right way, and for the right reasons. Plus, I found out that you're every bit as charming and funny and put-together as I imagined. Thank you for a memorable experience."

The remainder of the dinner was just okay. I don't think the women there knew what to make of me, so not many people talked to me. It wasn't until after dinner that baketown was kind enough to adopt me; she would end up being my BlogHer buddy for the rest of the weekend. For me, that made the whole event complete. And as much as I'd like to post pictures of baketown to show you how lovely she is, she insists on remaining anonymous, so you'll just have to use your imagination.
