Apple Watch: iPod Mini a Smash Success
Monday, 2004 March 29 - 5:59 pm
Certain Internet blowhards derided Apple's iPod Mini as overpriced and a certain failure. Now that it has surpassed all expectations, what are those blowhards saying?

The title "Chief Ignorant Anti-Apple Blowhard" has passed through many hands (yeah, I'm talking to you, John C. Dvorak), but it now rests squarely on the head of Paul Thurrott, who runs the arrogantly-named website "Paul Thurrott's Internet Nexus". This is supposed to be an impartial site, even though Thurrott also runs a site called "Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows". Hmm, where's the SuperSite for Linux and Macintosh?

When the iPod Mini was introduced, Thurrott immediately predicted its failure, based on price comparisons to flash-based players with one-tenth the capacity, or capacity comparisons to players that were three times the size and weight. Now that the iPod Mini is selling out all over the country, Thurrott is trying to cover his mistake by suggesting that it's not a demand issue, it's a supply issue. Thurrott contends (with no supporting evidence whatsover) that Apple simply didn't make enough of them. He says: "I stand by my assertion that the iPod Mini isn't a sales phenomenon at all."

Why can't some people just admit when they're wrong? Maybe when you're wrong so often, you just become blind to it.
