Blog Note: Haloscan Commenting System; iBlog Screws Me Again
Wednesday, 2004 October 6 - 11:27 pm
Well, I finally added a commenting system here, but it was a costly effort.

Something happened with iBlog as I was adding a commenting system to my blog (finally). I had no trouble with the excellent and free Haloscan service, but iBlog decided that this would be a convenient time to grind my blog database into tiny morsels. (The technical background, if anyone cares: I tried to "rebuild application data" so all my template changes would get picked up properly, because that seems to be necessary for some reason.)

After some finagling with preference files and whatnot, I managed to get back to my original state, but I still can't rebuild application data without screwing everything up.

I updated to the latest version of iBlog. Apparently it's a free update after all; I just can't "rebuild application data" or I lose the registration. Since rebuilding application data screws me anyway, I guess I may as well have the latest version. It should tide me over until I can get my own system written.

...and was it worth it? No comments in the first 24 hours. Hmm.
