Apple Watch: Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" Will Ship April 29th
Tuesday, 2005 April 12 - 11:22 pm
While Microsoft's "Longhorn" release slips further and further into 2006, Apple announces the arrival of its newest operating system release, Mac OS X 10.4, code-named "Tiger".

I guess I won't be buying a new computer until at least the end of this month.

Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger", with its array of cool new features, ships on April 29th. I wrote a fair amount about Tiger last year, way back in July, when Apple first previewed it. The new release looks compelling enough that I've held off buying a new laptop, so I could get one with Tiger included.

So by April 29th, I may be getting out my wallet.

Of course, there are still rumors of new hardware coming, so I may wait just a bit more to see what develops. We may see some product announcements at the upcoming NAB conference, or Apple's World Wide Developer's Conference. The prospect of a possible "iBook mini" still intrigues me. And besides, since I rescued Maria the Powerbook from a premature death, I guess I'm not in any particular hurry to buy anything new.

Of course, I never did buy myself a proper birthday present back in February, so I feel like I owe myself a little something. I mean, I ought to be smack in the midst of a middle-age crisis, right? But I already have a sports car and a big-screen TV, so I'm not sure what I'm supposed to get next. Hookers and cocaine?*

*Back when "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" was still popular, I always said that if I were on the show and Regis Philbin asked me what I would do with a million dollars, my response would be: "Well, first I'd give some money to charity... and then I'd blow the rest on hookers and cocaine."
