Apple Watch: New iMacs Released | Wednesday, 2005 May 4 - 1:00 am |
Apple updated its flat-panel iMac desktop line with faster processors, more memory, and improved graphics. On Tuesday, Apple announced upgrades for its acclaimed iMac computers. ![]() Now sporting G5 processors up to 2.0 GHz, ATI Radeon 9600 graphics, 512MB of RAM, and a 160- or 250-GB hard drive, this machine is hot. The 17" low-end machine is a great buy at $1299. Just for kicks, I spec'ed a similar Dell Dimension 8400 system and that came to $1269 (including a current 20% discount promotion), and it comes in a hideously ugly grey box that you have to hide underneath your desk. And of course with the Dell you don't get the lovely Mac OS X "Tiger" or the fabulous iLife multimedia suite. It's not quite enough of a step up from my current dual 1GHz PowerMac G4, so I'm not going to buy it myself. But I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to anyone else. |
