Japan Photos

A few photos from the trip, after the jump. I'll have more up on Facebook later.

First things first... Matsusaka beef. Pictures don't do this justice; you have to experience the flavor explosion for yourself.

Here's a view of Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion in Kyoto. It was pouring rain when we took this.

Also in Kyoto, this is Nijo-jo (Nijo Castle).

Note we had to think twice about whether we'd be allowed in.

Here's a view from our hotel in Yokohama... I applied a bit of tilt-shift fakery to this picture.

This is the giant Buddha in Kamakura. Amy insisted on having me take the second picture (an homage to our New York trip).

Here's the Tokyo Tower at night, and some views from the observation tower.

Some more food photos, mmmm.

Cakes

These are some things we liked: Crunky green tea chocolate, and Chu-Hi, the best vending machine drink ever.

This was from a supermarket; they had a live demonstration of a tuna being cut into sashimi.

Here's a typical squat toilet, which Amy encountered several times.

And finally, a few odd English translations for you.

Engrish
"We decline clothing with feces, vomiting thing so that secondry infection is possible."

Engrish
"Thank you for staying in our the Meitetsu Grand Hotel. We apologize for any inconvenience it may cause."

Engrish
"For your happy time... with liquor."

I love Engrish! I'm so happy you captured some. What a totally fascinating place. Your parents live there now right?
