Big Ten Football 2020: Week 2 Recap and Week 3 Preview | Friday, 2020 November 6 - 10:56 pm |
Well, I've been mostly watching a different sport this week (a days-long comeback by the Mail-In Balloteers against the Flailing Fascists), so apologies for the delay. Also last weekend was, uh, disappointing. Michigan 24, Michigan State 27 What the hell, man. MSU did basically one thing that worked: chucked up long passes against Michigan's lousy cornerbacks, racking up completions and PI penalties. Michigan had no answer for this, and now there's a lot of us seriously questioning Don Brown's competence. How do you not go to a zone defense when your corners are overmatched? MSU did it all day, playing a bend-don't-break strategy successfully. It was painful to watch. Michigan wasn't nearly as explosive on offense as they were against Minnesota, but we found out that maybe Minnesota sucks. So putting up 452 yards against MSU might actually be pretty good. Joe Milton seemed a bit nervous in the pocket, but he also made NFL-level throws into tight coverage, so that was encouraging. But yeah. I am full of ennui. Ohio State might make good on their threat to score 100 points against Michigan, if we're as incapable of covering receivers as we saw last week. #23 Michigan at #13 Indiana, Noon FS1 So now Michigan gets Indiana, AKA the team that stole a win against PSU. Michigan is weirdly a slight favorite in this game. I dunno what to expect, to be honest. Indiana will probably try what MSU did, and they'll probably succeed. But IU's defense is worse than MSU's, so it might be a wash. Prediction: Michigan 38, Indiana 35. Penn State 25, Ohio State 38 It's annoying how Ohio State is just crushingly, effortlessly good. Sometimes it seems like they're bored. Oh yawn, I have to go score another touchdown. Penn State needed a perfect game, and they didn't get one, especially in the rushing offense. Jahan Dotson was a bright spot with some spectacular catches, but he couldn't carry the team on his own. And James Franklin made the questionable decision to try to convert a fourth down on PSU's first possession from his own 45. I dunno man. Penn State vs Maryland, 3:30 PM BTN Will we see the Maryland that lost to Northwestern 43-3, or the one that beat Minnesota 45-44? I mean really, how do you go from scoring 3 points to 45? Prediction: Penn State 52, Maryland 16. Games to Watch on TV I mean, I'll probably still be watching CNN all day, honestly. But aside from the two games above, there's #8 Florida vs #5 Georgia at 3:30 on CBS, and #1 Clemson vs #4 Notre Dame at 7:30 on NBC. |
