The Fourth
Monday, 2005 July 4 - 11:31 pm
It was a fun holiday today.

So I did end up going to Regency Park in Cary to see the fireworks today, along with a few friends, and about ELEVEN TRILLION other people. The place was packed.

Jenny P, if you were looking for me, it seems unlikely you would have found me.

The crowd was mostly families; I didn't see very many people my age. I wandered around looking for photo opportunities (i.e. women to flirt with), but I didn't find any. Well, I take that back: I did strike up a conversation with a cute girl as we stood in line for the porta-potty. But that's not exactly the BEST time to try to make a new friend... or, to take a picture, for that matter.

I found a twenty dollar bill on the floor of the porta-potty. Would YOU pick it up? I was slightly grossed out, but hey, twenty bucks. Of course I had to pick it up with a tissue and keep it segregated from my clean cash until I could get it home and disinfect it. And I couldn't tell the cute girl about it... what would she have thought of me?

I went back to our little camp site and took pictures of my friend Jessica, who is another one of those breathtakingly beautiful but utterly unavailable women I know. Ordinarily I'm hesitant to post pictures of friends without asking them first, but I just HAVE to show you this picture... it's instantly become one of my favorites:

See how the sun is kissing her cheek and her shoulder? I think that's so cool. I might have to turn this photograph into a painting.

We sat around all day eating and drinking, and we remarked that the Fourth of July is truly an all-American holiday. You've got the over-eating, the over-drinking, the ass-sitting, the loud noises, and the flashing lights. What could BE more American?

It started to rain on us just as the fireworks were starting up, but the rain let up quickly and we were treated to a pretty good show. Demonstrating my new camera prowess, I took a few pictures like this one:

After the fireworks ended, we had another brief downpour, and then it got eerily hazy. So as we were walking out, I saw a remarkable scene... and I just had to take one last picture:

Kind of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind"... or maybe "Night of the Living Dead". I like this one too.

Hope everyone else had a safe and happy holiday!

Great entry. Cool last photo, I hope you can still walk after the alien probe.

y'all had a great spot it looks like! We were along the lake, right by where there were firemen holding up a boot to collect cash. About 10 ft in from the black fenced gate. When I saw all those people I thought, Hm. No chance of seeing Ken, but oh well. It was fun getting totally soaked, and the fireworks show was excellent. I personally like the white ones that look like Sideshow Bob hair, and then the other white ones that made curlicues.
