Good Day
Saturday, 2005 October 1 - 5:05 pm
It's been a pretty good day today.

This morning I woke up and thought it was Friday for a moment. I got to have that glorious realization, "NO, IT'S SATURDAY, YOU CAN GO BACK TO SLEEP". That is one of the truly great pleasures in life.

In the afternoon, I watched Michigan win its football game. That in itself is enough to make my day.

My TiVo is working well. I never did figure out why QuickTime won't play my transferred programs properly, but VLC plays them just fine, and I can burn them to DVD without any trouble. My only problem now is trying not to fall behind on my show-watching too much. I've added "My Name Is Earl" to my regular schedule, by the way. But "Head Cases" was cancelled after just two episodes, so I no longer need to juggle my Wednesday TV recordings. Oh, and man, did everyone see "Boston Legal" this week? Looks like it's gonna be a good season.

I finally caught up on some personal finance stuff, and it looks like I'm on track to meet my goals for the year. I did find out that I'm delinquent on my auto tax bill. I hadn't noticed that they'd put my auto tax bill and my house tax bill in the same envelope. I don't think they've ever done that before. Grrr. It's lucky I did this little self-audit.

Anyway, my finances are looking okay, mostly because my stocks have done well this year. It occurred to me that stock-picking is a little bit like that old game show "Card Sharks". You look at something and you pretty much just have to guess HIGHER (pointing upwards with thumbs) or LOWER (pointing downwards). And if you get an 8, you're just screwed.

The only thing wrong with today is that Amy is not here. For the record, she is actually shmoopie, not me, despite any arguments you might hear to the contrary.
