Well, Hello Blog | Sunday, 2007 July 22 - 10:59 am |
I know. I know. It's been two weeks, and where the hell have I been? The big thing that's kept me busy is moving. It finally came time to get all my crap out of my old house, and into our new house. I lived in my old house as a bachelor for 14 years, so you can imagine the amount of useless detritus I accumulated. There was literally a pile of obsolete or non-working computers. The city normally picks up computers to recycle for free, but when I called them, they politely informed me that they only will pick up a couple of computers at a time. Twelve was RIGHT OUT. And desks. I had a couple of desks to get rid of. Did you know most charities don't take desks? Apparently there's a surplus of used desks in the world. Maybe the dot-com bust resulted in so many businesses ditching their old desks, that there are now warehouses full of them somewhere... and perhaps they're breeding. Assorted other items:
How to get rid of all this stuff? I considered a yard sale. In fact, my big plan was to put all the crap on my yard, and accept any offer given to me for it. But my last two weekends have been busy with other things, and garage sales are a lot of work... and I was working towards a deadline. The ultimate solution? 1-800-GOT-JUNK. They specialize in this kind of thing. They send a truck and two guys to your house or business, and they haul away just about anything you don't want. They charge by the truckload or partial truckload. If you fill the truck, it's about $500 bucks. That seems like a lot of money, but compared to the days I would have spent driving to junkyards, consignment shops, and charities, and the time I would have spent setting up a yard sale, it was totally worth it. Among the things I've kept:
Now I have to find a place to put all of this crap in our new house. I've promised Amy that I will reduce the volume of the junk by half over the next year. Some of that will be accomplished via bonfire. |

Now I know where to take all the junk I'm trying to get rid of. Just drop me a line of your old address. Might even be able to squeeze out a 2nd truck from these for you. |
