Sports: Pistons Win! | Wednesday, 2004 June 16 - 12:48 am |
Ahh, it's nice to be on the winning side. I have sympathy for Laker fans (but only a little). It's hard to be a sports fan, sometimes. 99% of the time, your team doesn't win the championship. But on those rare occasions where your team does win, it all seems worthwhile. No one, including me, expected the Detroit Pistons to defeat the vaunted L.A. Lakers. And yet they did, with teamwork, fundamentals, hustle, and determination. Even if you're not a Pistons fan, or even if you're not a sports fan at all, you've gotta love the whole wax-on wax-off fairy tale. In my life, I've seen "my" team win a fair number of times: the 1984 Detroit Tigers; the 1989 Michigan basketball team; the 1997 Michigan football team; the 1997, 1998, and 2002 Detroit Red Wings; and the 1989, 1990, and 2004 Detroit Pistons. Okay, Detroit Lions: it's your turn. By the way: any true Michigander will tell you, it's not DEEEtroit, it's dihTROIH. So congratulations, dihTROIH Pistons! |
