Man Bag Shootout | Wednesday, 2005 July 20 - 11:58 pm |
It's not a purse... it's European! So I now have two man-bags. The latest one is a $30 Baggallini "Wallet Bagg", from eBags.com. (I got it just because I like to say "Baggallini".) The other one is the $13 Totes bag that I mentioned before. Here they are side by side: Note that the Baggallini is quite a bit smaller. It's about the size of a trade paperback. When I ordered it, I was thinking that smaller is better, because I don't want to carry around a honkin' briefcase. But now that I have it, I realize that small means cute, cute means feminine, feminine means trouble, and that starts with "T" and that rhymes with "P" and that stands for "Pool". Okay, I know, I'm not doing myself any favors by quoting "The Music Man". The Baggallini is a called a "Wallet Bagg" with good reason... it's really more of an oversized wallet than it is a proper bag. Here's the inside: There are a couple of zippered pouches, and some credit-card pockets along the side. That's pretty much it. The Totes bag, by contrast, is more functional, more masculine, and soothingly ugly. It has a couple of zippered compartments on the outside, a couple of Velcro-flap pockets, and a couple of mesh pockets. The side mesh pocket is particularly handy for carrying a cell phone; the phone is accessible without having to open the main flap. I think the Totes bag is the winner. I still like the Baggallini; it's definitely more stylish. But I think there'll be more occasions where I feel comfortable with the Totes. Now, how 'bout them Pistons? I hear they're replacing Larry Brown... |
