College Football Recap | Tuesday, 2007 September 25 - 10:59 pm |
Michigan 14, Penn State 9. N.C. State 20, Clemson 42. Michigan 14, Penn State 9. Okay, I haven't watched this game yet (it's on TiVo) but I've read a lot about it. Two things stand out: first, Mike Hart again had a huge day running even though Penn State knew that Michigan would give him the ball a lot. Second, Michigan's defense played their best game of the season. As much as we've criticized the defense for getting shredded in the first two games, we have to give them some credit for the last two. I do feel bad for my long-suffering Penn State friends... Michigan has now won the last nine meetings with Penn State in a row. Michigan has a stretch of somewhat easier opponents coming up. That might give some players time to get healthy before the three critical games at the end of the season (Michigan State, Wisconsin, Ohio State). N.C. State 20, Clemson 42. Not much to say here... N.C. State was just overmatched. Clemson is a serious contender in the ACC this year. Other News Notre Dame 14, Michigan State 31. Notre Dame is 0-4 for the first time in school history. Notre Dame managed to gain some yards rushing (finally) and did score an offensive touchdown (finally), but an 0-8 start seems like a real good possibility now. Miami 34, Texas A&M 17. Is Miami back? Syracuse 38, Louisvile 35. Really? Syracuse? They're bad, like Notre Dame bad. And Louisville, in two weeks, has gone from championship contender to being unranked. LSU 28, South Carolina 16. I thought Spurrier's team could give LSU a run for their money, but they came up a little short. Georgia 26, Alabama 23 (OT). Another key SEC matchup. Florida 30, Mississippi 24. Florida looked a bit vulnerable in their first road game. Tebow looked good, but the rest of the offense was sloppy. They can't play like that and expect to win out in the SEC. Kentucky 42, Arkansas 29. Kentucky looks like they might be for real. Arkansas does not. Nebraska 41, Ball State 40. So Michigan isn't the only team to squeak by Ball State? Huh. |

Credit Ball State with a missed extra point for the loss. Oh, and, WMU got their first win of the season over a DIFFICULT Central Connecticut State, 51 - 14. MAC contenders!?!?! IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII doooooooon't knowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. |

As one of those long-suffering Penn State friends, I'll add this: Thank God Mike Hart is a senior! Our defense actually did a great job against him for most of the game (it did take him 44 carries to get those 153 yds, after all), but he was still the difference maker in the fourth quarter. That kid's just a winner. Oh yeah, and I'm not going to watch this cursed matchup again until Penn State wins one. Til then, I'll just watch my tape of the '94 game and dream about the good old days. |

I feel for you, Dan. I did get around to watching the recording of the game. It was pretty close; turnovers made the difference, I think. But yeah, Mike Hart is really something else... his ability to find holes and escape arm-tackles is unbelievable. There's always a big dropoff whenever he's out of the game. We do have lots of running back talent, and we've got Sam McGuffie coming in next year, but we'll sure miss Mike Hart when he's gone. I gotta say, the PSU offensive line doesn't look so great. And Morelli, well, there's a guy who's never lived up to his billing, but that's largely because he hasn't had enough talent around him. Still, I think the PSU defense is good enough to win a bunch of games, especially considering how bad the Big Ten sucks this year. |
