The tradition lives on. Longtime readers may remember last year, when I made a post-Thanksgiving turkey just for myself, so I'd have more leftovers. Well, since I was out of town for Thanksgiving this year, I again made a turkey for myself. Or I suppose one might say I "made a turkey of myself", if one were the sort to make bad jokes like that. I bought the turkey last weekend, and I got around to roasting it today. And once again, the carnage was a sight to behold. Actually, this picture reflects the view AFTER I'd significantly cleaned things up. Before that, it looked as if a turkey had exploded in my kitchen, and then another turkey had jumped on top of the first turkey in order to try to save me from the force of the blast. Let's just say there were turkey parts ALL OVER this joint. Speaking of joints... I still find it somewhat disturbing when I get to the part where I have to rip the turkey leg out of its socket. That strikes me as the most violent part of the whole process. Of course, then when I eat the flesh off the newly dismembered leg, I don't find THAT part disturbing at all. I think gravy washes away all sins. Don't mind me for the next week or so... I will be wallowing in trypto-phoria. Ahhhh. |

Or, "I made myself a turkey"? Re. exploding animals: Last night I saw the last 40 minutes of Jaws. Lots of exploding animal at the end of that sucker, mmm, hmm.. (Then of course there was childhood and putting firecrackers under Japanese beetles.) |

fyi for next year, i found this pretty nice on how to elegantly carve a turkey. so the end result doesn't look so much like evisceration. not that i'm implying anything. http://www.latimes.com/features/food/la-fo-carve23nov23,1,4614059.story |
