Today's Frozen Meal: Lean Cuisine Grilled Chicken and Penne Pasta
Wednesday, 2010 January 6 - 12:24 pm
"White meat chicken, penne pasta & vegetables in a garlic herb sauce with a caramel apple dessert". Penne pasta! Because I am food-illiterate and I did not know penne was pasta!

Box

Meal

This is one of the larger Lean Cuisine meals. As baketown said, Lean Cuisine meals can be pretty tiny. I picked this one with 30% more food in hopes that it would fill me up.

It's not bad looking; if I'd put in on a plate, it would come pretty close to the picture on the box. The package actually recommends putting the food on a plate. "Wellness Tip: Enjoying your meals from a plate and eating more slowly can lead to a more satisfying meal experience." But they don't tell you that you have to wash the plate afterward, which leads to a less satisfying sitting-on-your-ass-after-the-meal experience.

Taste: It's hard to mess up chicken and pasta, I guess. The meal was cooked well: the chicken was moist, the vegetables were firm, and I'd even describe the pasta as al dente. The flavor was okay; I hit a bitter spot here and there (orange peel, maybe?) and it was a little under-seasoned, but I suppose that's what you get with a low-sodium meal. And for dessert? Apple-caramel goo! Score: 3.0/5.0

Nutrition

Nutrition: Again, pretty good all around: low fat, low calories, low sodium, high fiber, high vitamin content. 90% of the recommended allowance for Vitamin C! Score: 3.0/3.0

Packaging: I had to peel back the film and stir the entree four minutes in, and then cook for three more minutes. Score: 1.0/2.0

Total Score: 7.0/10.0

My suggestion is too have a side salad with your Lean Cuisine, otherwise you'll still be hungry.
