Today's Frozen Meal: Healthy Choice Roasted Beef Merlot | Tuesday, 2010 January 12 - 12:31 pm |
From the "Café Steamers" collection: "Beef Steak with Rosemary Red Potatoes and Vegetables with Rich Merlot Wine Sauce". Again, thanks for clarifying that Merlot is wine, because I was confused by the many possible meanings. + Like yesterday's meal, this has the steamer tray for even cooking, which works well. Taste: It kind of reminds me of the inside of a beef pot pie. It does taste like beef and vaguely Merlot-ish, but rosemary? I know rosemary. Rosemary is a friend of mine. You, Healthy Choice Meal, are no rosemary. Would it kill these guys to add a little more pepper? And as is typical for these meals, the beef is low-grade, but pressure-cooked to make it tender. The vegetables are cooked well, but this is screaming for some onions and mushrooms. Score: 2.0/5.0 Nutrition: Only 230 calories, but a third of them are from fat (8 grams of fat total). Good fiber content, average in vitamins. Score: 2.5/3.0 Packaging: As I concluded yesterday, the packaging is a strength of these Café steamer meals. Score: 2.0/2.0 Total Score: 6.5/10.0 |

I don't even see rosemary on the ingredient list. Instead, I see "binder product," which sounds less than appetizing. |
