A Full Pantry
Sunday, 2005 August 14 - 11:00 pm
I live in a house of plenty.

My one-time-friend Leigh used to note how she loved the feeling of a car with a full gas tank.

I knew exactly what she meant.

I did some much-needed grocery shopping today, and now my refrigerator and pantry are fully stocked. I have food to last me a month. And TOILET PAPER! How I've missed you! I no longer have to tear pages out of the Sears & Roebuck catalog. (A little 1920s humor for you there.)

And oh, Internets, you'd be so proud of how I bought loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, and how the only snack food I got was low-sodium Wheat Thins. My challenge will be to eat all those fresh fruits and vegetables before they go bad in the rotter... I mean, the "crisper".

Okay, I did buy beer. And wine. And tater tots. (I've been obsessed with tater tots ever since watching "Napoleon Dynamite".) I really am trying to improve my diet. Baby steps, people, baby steps.

I've found that to eat fresh vegetables, you need to go to the grocery store about every other day. Otherwise they sit around and rot.

Nicholas: the FoodSaver vacuum sealer helps with some things, like lettuce and spinach. Tomatoes and onions keep for about a week. I wish I could be one of those people who buys a little basket of fresh groceries every day, but have you ever tried to eat a whole head of lettuce in one day?

BakeTown: Chili cheese tots.... oh, what a fantastic idea. So much for my diet.
