A Full Pantry | Sunday, 2005 August 14 - 11:00 pm |
I live in a house of plenty. My one-time-friend Leigh used to note how she loved the feeling of a car with a full gas tank. I knew exactly what she meant. I did some much-needed grocery shopping today, and now my refrigerator and pantry are fully stocked. I have food to last me a month. And TOILET PAPER! How I've missed you! I no longer have to tear pages out of the Sears & Roebuck catalog. (A little 1920s humor for you there.) And oh, Internets, you'd be so proud of how I bought loads of fresh fruits and vegetables, and how the only snack food I got was low-sodium Wheat Thins. My challenge will be to eat all those fresh fruits and vegetables before they go bad in the rotter... I mean, the "crisper". Okay, I did buy beer. And wine. And tater tots. (I've been obsessed with tater tots ever since watching "Napoleon Dynamite".) I really am trying to improve my diet. Baby steps, people, baby steps. |

I've found that to eat fresh vegetables, you need to go to the grocery store about every other day. Otherwise they sit around and rot. |

Nicholas: the FoodSaver vacuum sealer helps with some things, like lettuce and spinach. Tomatoes and onions keep for about a week. I wish I could be one of those people who buys a little basket of fresh groceries every day, but have you ever tried to eat a whole head of lettuce in one day? BakeTown: Chili cheese tots.... oh, what a fantastic idea. So much for my diet. |
