Girlfriend Update: A Few Clues
Thursday, 2005 August 25 - 11:59 pm
Getting to know The WHB.

It's now been over a week since I first met The WHB. A WHOLE FREAKIN' WEEK! Things are going so slowly! I can't believe we're not married yet.

The first clue for you about The WHB: The "W" stands for "White". Or as her profile put it, "White White Damn White". She's just a small-town girl, umm, livin' in a lonely world. (Did anyone else see that odd Journey tribute band at Alive After Five last week? And the dude who was in the audience enthusiastically pumping his fist through the ENTIRE performance? Strange.) I guess that would make me the city boy, born and raised in South Detroit. Or thereabouts.

Like I said before, we're something of an unlikely couple. She's a true Southerner: she's got a straightforward and earnest sense of humor, and a knack for turning a phrase. I'm clearly a Northerner: my sense of humor is more self-conscious, and I can be somewhat dry and laconic in person. But somehow we get along great, and we make each other laugh all the time. I find I really enjoy the irony of this relationship. I love that we're challenging the expectations of what a "good match" should be. It's kinda like West Side Story, except without the gay dancing street gangs. (NTTAWWT.)

We chat via IM during the day, mostly just exchanging silliness. Every now and then we lapse into bits of sticky sweetness that would surely cause people to gag. If you were to read over our shoulders, you would have to read a five minute conversation on which one of us is actually shmoopie.

We're not serious about it. It's just funny.

The WHB's name is Amy. Everyone please say hello... and try not to scare her away, because the staff here at the Real Kato Online likes her.

What we really all want to know is, can she hold her liquor? And what's her favorite drink? Let's get down to business here.

Howdy Amy!

Ken - after meeting you at BlogHer I couldn't understand why some cute, clever Southern Belle hadn't snapped you up - but so glad to hear that you and the WHB have found each other. There's hope for the rest of us yet.

Looking forward to reading your relationship blogging now.
