Last Man Standing
Tuesday, 2005 December 27 - 11:15 am
Well, so that's it... looks like I'll be the last to get hitched. Or will I?

Merry Christmas, everyone. I am having a relaxing vacation. I could have blogged over the past few days, but I decided to take a vacation from that, too. Besides, the flaming hooker story seemed like such a nice thing to leave up as the top link over Christmas.

So over the weekend, I get an email from my friend Earl that he has gotten engaged. This is following a similar announcement from Steve a few months ago.

Earl, Steve, and I had been the last of our high school clique to remain single. Not only that, but we all have birthdays within a day of each other. And I think we've all, at various times in our lives, suffered the "nice guy" syndrome: we were too nice to be interesting to women. So we've always had kind of a brotherhood.

Earlier this year, we discussed having a single-guy reception for whomever was the "last man standing", the last single person in the group. The guy would register for gifts at Best Buy and The Sharper Image, and then there'd be a bachelor party and a big reception.

It looks like I might win.

But you know, with the way things are going with Amy, I'm thinking that it's going to be pretty close to a tie. I don't think I'm gonna need a Last Man Standing party after all. Yes, that means Amy and I are starting to discuss the Big M. I'm determined to be patient and not rush into anything, but Amy and I are still as shmoopie as ever, and it doesn't look like it's going to stop. Who would have guessed I'd be in this position, especially the way things were going six months ago.

And anyway, it would only be right if the three members of The Brotherhood all got hitched the same year.

But I'm still gonna register at Best Buy. Or maybe the Apple Store.

You know, my hubby WON a bet from some of his friends that was very similar (they had started the "women haters club" or something like that because of getting screwed over by so many women and vowed to never settle down!). The one to win the bet would get crisp 100$ bills from his friends...

This was from his days way back at Telex. All I know, on my wedding video is some guy giving my hubby a crisp 100$ bill that he owed him from way back whenever he himself got married...! I need to ask him how much $$ he made out of the deal :)

So, being the last does have its rewards! :)

P.S. Btw, I guess Chuck was never part of this "club" :) But then again, he is the one that always breaks up...

I had a mini crush on you Earl, my jr. year, and you never responded to it so naturally I thought you were gay. Why else wouldn't you go out with me??? kidding of course. Very heartfelt congratulations on your engagement!

Kidding about why you didn't go out with me, not about the crush.

You know, I'm curious about who had a crush on whom in high school... maybe I'll start up a discussion item where everyone can come clean about that.

As for me, I pretty much had a crush on every girl I knew.

Thanks for the congratulations...But, you didn't notice Ken failed to mention the gender of my betrothed? So, maybe I am gay!
