Marriage
Wednesday, 2006 March 15 - 10:07 am
So I didn't dream all that after all.

So yeah, I'm still engaged. I didn't jinx it by writing about it. Dang, it feels weird to say "I'm engaged." "I'm going to be married." But weird in a really good way. It's like I've been living for decades on the wrong planet without realizing it.

Thanks for all the well-wishes; I'm touched by all of them. It makes me feel all warm to have so many people telling me how happy they are for me... as opposed to saying things like, "Are you SURE?" or "This CAN'T be real". I feel very positive about getting married to Amy, and I'm glad everyone else does too.

The main question everyone asks is, have we set a date yet? And the answer is no. We are thinking sometime around the end of the year, or early next year at the latest. But there are lots of things that have to come together, and we'll have to see how it all works out.

The other question everyone asks is, what's going on with the ring? There's more to that saga, but it hasn't all played out yet... that'll have to wait for a future post.

Thanks again for all the kind thoughts!

p.s. Amy's eyes are blue, the sword in the drink was originally red, and the drink itself really was pink.

by my clock, you've got at least three years to actually get hitched. so no rush or anything.

Just wait until you introduce her to someone as "my wife" for the first time. That's REALLY weird. Wonderful, but weird.

You know what cracks me up? A while ago, you wrote a post in which you said that you thought all your neighbors were saying "Look, Ken got himself a white woman!" I remembered that the other day completely out of nowhere and it made me giggle.

All I can say is that when I introduce someone as "my wife" well, the feeling is like nothing in the world! (Mmmm. Wait a minute.)

Actually, when does she get to meet the parental units? They must be uber-happy for you too. (I don't know how to say that in Japanese.)

Crouching - that would be "SUGOI URESHII!!!!"

or perhaps "OH! BIKKURI! SUGOI URESHII!!!" for "Oh! How surprising! Uber-happy!"

My God -- I read the blog title and thought you'd gone and eloped. In any case, "Sugoi ureshii!"

When I was single, my girlfriends and I would jokingly refer to the grossest guy in the room (open shirt, gold chains, drenched in Paco Rabanne - you get the picture) as 'my husband.'

As in, "Oh look, MY HUSBAND is winking and making licking motions in our direction."

So one of the first times that I introduced Rigel as 'my husband,' one of my girlfriends turned to me and said, "Omigod. You're SERIOUS."

I agree with e. When we got engaged, we actually didn't get married for another 2 years. We figured that would allow us enough time to A)save up enough money to do this ourselves so that we didn't have to obey the whims of anyone else paying for it and B)that would be enough time to plan everything perfectly.

Worked great on A, not so much on B, but we did discover that the X factor makes a wedding so much more memorable.

Oh by the way, the above was not meant to be "advice." Just a story. I'm sure you're getting advice by the bucketloads, and if not, just wait!
