Consumer Report: Household Products (Part 2) | Thursday, 2005 February 3 - 11:39 am |
More comments on household products. I should be getting some product placement revenue for this. So, I got my fancy French press to make coffee, having finally given up on el cheapo Mr. Coffee machine. I bought it at Bed Bath and Beyond, which is my third favorite store (behind the Apple Store and Organized Living). Last week I hoped to make my first good cup of coffee ever. I used the Costa Rican coffee that Anna gave me. IT STILL SUCKED. Not because of the coffee, but because of me and my lousy coffee-making skills. The problem was, I was lazy. I still used el cheapo to heat the water, since I don't have a teakettle (yet). What I realized is that the machine just doesn't get the water hot enough to properly brew the coffee. So today, I heated the water in a pot and tried that instead. The coffee turned out GOOD! REALLY GOOD! MMMMM! Now I will be wired for the rest of the day. A few more household products I wanted to mention. First: the KitchenAid stand mixer. If you do any baking at all, you MUST have one of these things. I don't know how much time and energy I've wasted folding eggs into batter by hand. Next: the FoodSaver vacuum sealer. Yeah, that thing you see on the cheesy infomercials. It really works. It'll keep lettuce fresh for a month, cheese mold-free for six months... it's really great for single people like me, who simply don't have the capacity to eat a WHOLE HEAD OF LETTUCE in a week. (By the way, why is lettuce the only food that comes in "head" form?) Finally: the Shark vacuum cleaner. It's super-convenient having a handheld vacuum cleaner around, but most of the other ones aren't powerful enough to pick anything up. Not so with the Shark. This thing can suck like (insert Paris Hilton joke here). |
