What Were You Thinking? Part II
Thursday, 2005 August 11 - 11:56 pm
More oddness in the news... and on this blog.

First, I want to note that mentioning Deepak Jahagirdar in my earlier article was a freakin' gold mine as far as Google hits. There are a TON of people searching for his name. My worry, though, is that the people doing the searching are creepy guys looking for tips on how to discreetly grope women on airline flights. Or, they're people looking for some titillating story involving the word "genitals".

Second... I've been getting some weird comments on my post about Michelle Wie, from a couple of guys outside the U.S. I don't know what to say to these guys, exactly. It's a little bit funny, and a little bit sad. Go check it out and tell me what you think.

Okay, in more recent news:

A woman who helped her husband escape prison by shooting a guard has been captured, along with her fugitive husband. George and Jennifer Hyatte surrendered in a motel in Columbus Ohio. U.S Marshals were tipped off by a cab driver who gave the couple a ride.

So did they really think they wouldn't be caught? It's not like the woman had some secret hideout in the mountains of North Carolina or anything. They took a taxi to a motel, even though their faces were plastered all over the news. If you're gonna stage a prison break, you might want to plan it just a little bit better than that. But I guess if you'd been that smart, you wouldn't have been in that situation to begin with.

A man was arrested in Oklahoma for trying to carry an "improvised explosive device" on board an airplane, in his carry-on luggage.

Charles Dreyling was released on $10,000 bail after appearing in federal court. The device was small; Dreyling's landlord says it was probably just a large firecracker that he'd accidentally forgotten to take out of his luggage. But you know, taking a firecracker through the airline security checkpoint is a mistake you simply don't make. It's like "accidentally" taking your machete to the donut shop by the police headquarters. You can't just say "oops, my bad" and walk away. If the guy doesn't go to prison for the actual crime, they should lock him up for stupidity alone.

A guy shot a car to silence its annoying alarm. David Owen Rye was arrested after firing three bullets into a Toyota Camry, apparently angry that its alarm was making a racket. So, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Tao of Rye: If something's bugging you, POP A CAP IN ITS ASS. Maybe next time he can get together with Dreyling, and they can shove an M-80 up the tailpipe instead. (Um, no, I'm not talking about gay porn.)

Can't wait for the next round of Google hits.

Ken, the Michelle Wie comments were a little, um, odd, yes. And she's a doll baby (w/ emphasis on 'baby')! ;->

Though I am intrigued by Paolo B. Can you get me his email address, by chance. Snort.
