Town of Cary (Update) | Sunday, 2004 September 26 - 11:03 am |
Perhaps I won't have to run for town council after all. The Town of Cary is apparently reconsidering its ordinance against neon signs for downtown businesses. Hooray! I'm not sure if this signals a shift in town council politics. I'm also not sure if this is really a Republican issue or a Democratic one. On the one hand, it's pro-business and pro-growth, so you might consider it a Republican tilt; on the other hand, it's progressive and urban, so it could be a Democratic tilt. The folks who might be against this are the traditionalists (folks who believe in the small town character of Cary) and mall-fed suburban families (who only need a Wal-Mart, a Golden Corral, and a Food Lion within a ten minute drive). Unfortunately, those are the people who have dominated town politics in the past. But maybe times are a' changin'. |
