Bush... and Pie
Saturday, 2005 May 21 - 10:05 pm
Some news about our "cute" President.

On Friday, Bush decreed that he would veto a bipartisan bill that would provide more federal funding for stem-cell research, if the bill made it through Congress. If that happened, that would be his first veto. Quite a legacy: rubber-stamp every bill that passes your desk except the one that might actually save lives and advance human knowledge.

In justifying this decision, White House press secretary Trent Duffy said that Bush believes "taxpayer dollars, public money, should not go for that type of practice that many, many, many Americans find morally offensive." Of course, I guess that statement doesn't apply to the Iraq war or the death penalty. Oh, and Trent, and no matter how many times you say the word "many", you won't fool us into thinking that it means the same as "most".

In other Bush news, there were some protesters at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Bush gave a commencement speech on Saturday. Many wore stickers that said "God is not a Republican or Democrat." A third of the college faculty signed a letter protesting his visit, calling the Iraq war "unjust and unjustified". According to an MSNBC article, Bush supporters responded with placards that read "We love Bush" and "Cutie pie".

That's right. "Cutie pie".

I find it funny that Bush supporters at a Christian college would use the words "bush" and "pie" together to demonstrate their support. Maybe MSNBC found that funny too, because they edited their original article to remove that reference.

Or maybe they just don't find Bush all that cute.

I like that. "Many many many." One of the best ways to defend your position on an argument. Must remember that.

I just wish people would get educated on this subject. There are so many ways to obtain stem cells, particularly through afterbirth which is just treated as biological waste after a baby is born anyway.

Gah. What is wrong with these people?
