Full Of, Um, Words
Wednesday, 2005 May 11 - 7:56 pm
After yesterday's blogorrhea, I wondered if I was going to have anything to write about today. Not to worry.

(I'm somewhat amazed that the term "blogorrhea" is so widely used already, given that most people probably don't know what the REAL word "logorrhea" means. Go figure.)

I was worried that after all that writing over the last couple of days, my brain would have run out of words, and today's blog entry would consist of a trickle of letters and punctuation marks. "N, Z, K...? O!!!" But fortunately my brain filled back up over the course of the day today, so now as usual I have a big steaming pile of topics to cover.

So off we go.

Today's two-mile running time: 17:15. At the 1.75-mile mark, I was at 15:10 and starting to wheeze and cramp up. I was sure I wasn't going to finish in less than 17:45. But then, in front of me, I saw the blonde girl in the little blue shorts who had passed me at the start of my run, and I suddenly found new energy! Funny how that happens. Of course, now I have a pulled hamstring to show for it.

Speaking of inspiration, I've realized it's been a while since I've said anything about MonoCerdo. So Sarah, welcome back from your trip. Your blog has made me think of a couple of things. First, your headline ("the author knows all her states and capitals") makes me think of when I was in elementary school, and my sister and I memorized all the state capitals. To help each other remember Arkansas, we would make a little sign with our hands like this:

No doubt that is an obscene gesture in some culture or another, but to us, it made us think of a "little rock". Oddly, we also used that sign for Topeka, because it was like PEEKing through a little hole.

Second, you used the phrase "jazz hands" in your blog and I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER.

Click to play, 468kb QuickTime Movie

And the word "jazz" brings to mind a tangentially related story. Whenever I'm about to go to sleep at night, I have to lie on my stomach for a while because my ASS is HOT. I don't know, for some reason my body uses my ass to radiate heat. So I have this ass cool-down period for about fifteen minutes. The phrase "ass hot" reminds me of the song "Le Jazz Hot" from Victor/Victoria, so you can picture me at night fanning my ass while quietly humming "Le Ass Hot" to myself. Isn't THAT more than you needed to know? You can blame Sarah's use of the term "jazz hands" for all of this.

Little Rock! That's GREAT. My difficulties were always with those that seem like they should be easy--Jackson, Columbia, Charleston, etc. Or maybe I was just ignoring the South from an early age.

As for "jazz hands," how on Bush's green Earth did you find that clip? Honestly. Hats off.

Finally, how dare you post so much while I was away? You are making the rest of us lazy vacationers who just sit on the beach and read old timey books all day look like SLACKERS.

The "jazz hands" clip is from last Sunday's Simpsons, which I happened to record since I was out of town. So I digitized that little clip. I'm sure I'm breaking some kind of law here.

And hey, if you think I posted a lot this weekend, wait until I have the opportunity to visit YOU. Then I'll REALLY have some stuff to write about. ;)

Ach! I knew I was missing something great when I couldn't watch the Simpsons last Sunday. I've missed four straight episodes now, which is definitely a record. How sad.
