Last Thursday's Frozen Meal: Healthy Choice Manicotti Formaggio
Monday, 2010 July 12 - 4:46 pm
"Whole Grain Pasta with Four Cheeses in Marinara Sauce, Broccoli & Caramel Apple Multigrain Crisp".

Box

Meal

The four cheeses are ricotta, parmesan, romano, and mozzarella. This looks and smells delicious coming out of the microwave.

Taste: It's surprisingly tasty. It's on par with some of the lasagnas that I've tried. The manicotti filling is nice and cheesy, and the tomato sauce is a nice balance of sweet and tangy. The sauce isn't cursed with the canned-ravioli tones that some of these Italian meals seem to have. But the broccoli is a bit disappointing (tiny flavorless florets) and the dessert is typically mediocre. Score: 3.5/5.0

Nutrition

Nutrition: Quite spectacular: 8 grams of fiber, and loaded with vitamin C and calcium. Score: 3.0/3.0

Packaging: Requires cutting the film, and stirring midway through cooking. I get especially peeved when the instructions tell me to "spoon" the sauce after some period of time, and I discover that the sauce is still frozen solid at that point. Score: 1.0/2.0

Total Score: 7.5/10.0
