Today's Frozen Meal: Lean Cuisine Shrimp Scampi
Wednesday, 2010 December 15 - 2:40 pm
"Shrimp with pasta, broccoli, yellow carrots and red peppers in a lemon garlic sauce."

Box

Meal

I thought I'd already tried all of the Lean Cuisine bag meals, but either I missed one or a new one has come out. The others have been decent, so I was hopeful about this one too.

Taste: It smells garlicky, but most of what you taste is lemon and salt. The shrimp is overcooked, as is typical. There's a lot of the runny lemony sauce left at the end; the flavor hasn't gotten incorporated into the pasta. The vegetables and pasta are cooked decently, but it has those odd one-inch-long noodles like some of the other Lean Cuisine bag meals. My only explanation for these noodles is that it must help the automated production process somehow: perhaps longer noodles would get tangled in the machinery as the meal got stuffed into the bags. But it certainly doesn't help the flavor or the aesthetic of the meal. Shrimp scampi is a pretty simple dish to prepare at home... this one isn't really worth buying frozen. Disappointing. Score: 2.0/5.0

Nutrition

Nutrition: How does a shrimp and pasta dish have four grams of saturated fat? It comes from the cheese, I guess, which isn't worth it because you can barely tell it's in there. Score: 2.0/3.0

Packaging: Simple; just microwave the whole bag. Score: 2.0/2.0

Total Score: 6.0/10.0
