CFB 2023: Week 4 Recap and Week 5 Preview
Friday, 2023 September 29 - 2:40 am
Michigan and Penn State win big; N.C. State squeaks by.

This will be a short update this week, apologies!

Michigan 31, Rutgers 7
Rutgers got a fluke touchdown early on a flub by the Michigan secondary, then never scored again. Michigan's offense remains potent but inconsistent, and I'm starting to be concerned about the defensive secondary, but a weak schedule is shielding the team from paying significant consequences for their early mistakes.

Michigan at Nebraska, 3:30 PM FOX
Nebraska has a decent enough defense, but the offense is a wreck. Expect a low-scoring affair in general, perhaps enough to put a scare into Michigan before the fourth quarter.

Prediction: Michigan 31, Nebraska 12.

Penn State 31, Iowa 0
Stories of Iowa's offensive resurgence were premature, apparently. It was another crisp day for Allar, and the team seems to be hitting its stride at the right time.

Penn State at Northwestern, 12:00 PM BTN
Northwestern is a wreck and this game probably won't be competitive.

Prediction: Penn State 48, Northwestern 6.

N.C. State 24, Virginia 21
State was outgained by winless Virginia and was lucky to escape with a win, thanks largely to Virginia penalties. A win is a win, I guess, but State still has a lot to fix.

N.C. State vs. Louisville, 7:00 PM Friday
Louisville is undefeated with wins against some non-cupcake teams, but they haven't faced a defense like State's yet. Could be a close one, but State might have a slight edge in a home night game despite Louisville being the favorite in Vegas.

Prediction: N.C. State 27, Louisville 24.
