Making Room
Wednesday, 2006 January 4 - 8:14 am
A New Year's resolution.

I've never been much for New Year's resolutions. Usually, they're forgotten by February. Or if they were so important, why didn't I start in December? Or last August?

This time I think I've got a good one.

I've been a single guy for a long time. A VERY, VERY LONG TIME. And as part of that, I've accumulated a lot of Things. All the Things occupy particular spaces in my house. And all the Boxes that the Things came in, they also occupy spaces. It got to the point where I now have more Boxes and Things than I have spaces. If I were to open a store here, it would be called "Boxes 'N' Things". Or maybe, "Disorganized Living". Or, "Bed, Bath, and The Extra Computer Equipment You Put There."

So in my house, there's not a whole lot of room for anyone else's Things.

I've started to realize that as Amy and I get to be more serious, I'm going to need to make a better effort to make room for her Things too. Not that she's moving in here or anything, but if she brings anything (extra clothes, music, liquor), there should be a place to store it. She should feel like she's got her own space here.

It's a good New Year's resolution because we're just now reaching the point where we're starting to talk about long term future plans, and that would hopefully involve cohabitation of some sort.

You know, giving Amy more room in my house will hopefully send her the message that I'm making room for her in my life too. Ultimately, that's what's most important.

Be sure to make room for her to put some necessary girl only things under the sink in the bathroom.
