Hell's Kitchen
Saturday, 2006 August 19 - 11:56 am
Some comments about this season's ending.

So I know that not many people watch "Hell's Kitchen", but I think it may be my favorite reality show. I mean, it involves food, for cryin' out loud.

This season was interesting because there was no clear front-runner. Keith seemed to do best in the kitchen, but Virginia had the best sense of taste, and Heather worked the hardest.

For a while, I was a fan of Keith, but man, he sure turned into an ass at the end of the show. He was such a crybaby when he got booted. And did you see him try to extort Virginia into giving him cash in exchange for not sabotaging her kitchen at the end? That's got to be against the rules of the show.

Heather ended up winning the final challenge. I think Virginia would have won if not for her management issues. I mean, on her team, she had Giacomo and Tom, who were next to useless, and Keith, who hated her. I think Virginia ought to have won... ultimately, if I'm at a restaurant, I want a chef with the best taste. She would have learned how to manage a kitchen. But you can't really teach taste.

I'd like to think that I'd do well on the show, because I think I know a fair amount about food, and I'd know enough not to get all mouthy with Chef Ramsay or the other contestants. But I don't think I quite have enough knowledge about cooking. That didn't seem to stop some other contestants from trying... but if I were on the show, I wouldn't want to be the clueless guy who's clearly out of his league and has to go home early. I wouldn't want to be Giacomo.

Anyway, I like the fact that Hell's Kitchen fills the summer TV drought. And it ends in time not to compete with all the cool fall shows. And you know that there'll eventually a celebrity version. And a version that has Gary Coleman and Ozzy Osbourne. This is the Fox network, after all.
