Bush Approval Rating Down to 34%
Wednesday, 2005 August 10 - 10:13 pm
So what did you expect?

Oil prices topped $65 per barrel today, bring a screeching halt to a morning stock rally. The so-called "energy bill", pushed through Congress by Bush and his Republican allies, does nothing to relieve these prices. Mostly, it just gives billions of dollars in tax breaks to oil companies, who are currently enjoying record-breaking profits thanks to the high oil prices.

The Army is poised to miss its 2005 recruiting goals, mainly due to the protracted war in Iraq. This is putting some strain on the all-volunteer nature of the Army, and now some defense analysts are saying we may indeed need to reinstate a draft, if this situation continues. In the short term, the Pentagon is asking Congress to raise the age for military enlistment to 42... I guess middle-aged guys are just as good as being cannon fodder as the kids are.

A grieving mother has become the face of the opposition to the Iraq war. Cindy Sheehan has camped out on the road leading to Bush's ranch in Crawford, Texas, where Bush is vacationing. She insists on speaking to George W. Bush personally. The spectacle has turned into an embarrassment for the administration.

Bush's approval rating has dropped to 34%. For those people who voted for Bush in the election, but now disapprove of his presidency, I have to ask: exactly what did you think would happen? Did you think oil would suddenly become plentiful enough to satisfy our ever-growing SUV-driven thirst? Did you think we would magically improve the situation in Iraq even though we had no plan on how to do so? Did you think all the families of the soldiers dying in Iraq would continue to support Bush with a stiff upper lip?

Hopefully you won't make that same mistake next time.

I know. It almost makes me angrier to see that people are disapproving of him NOW, now that we have 3 1/2 years left with Yosemite Sam at the helm. Oh, and when was the last time you heard the name Karl Rove?
